Transcription: Hi, and welcome to episode 36 of season two. I am your host, Tina Boogren. This week's episode is an activity that I'm going to encourage you to do as we start to think about closing out the school year. Now, I know we're all kind of at different places. Some of you, some of you might be doing ... Some of you are so stinking close to being done. Some of you may have a few weeks yet, but no matter where you are, you're, you're ... The light is starting to shine at the end of the tunnel. Some of you that light is really bright. Some of you, the light is a little more dim, but there it is. You can see it. This activity is about pausing and celebrate. What I want you to do is I want you to create your ta-da list. Those of you that have been with me in this podcast, we talked about this at the end of the last school year, but I wanted to bring it back again, because I think it's so powerful. And, I want you to, I want you to do this. This is so fantastic to do with students or do like with your PLC, do it with your family, do it with just on your own ... It doesn't matter. It's just ... It's the point of celebrating.

We know the challenges of this year, and we know that our brains can be so tricky. What tends to happen is our brain will like, oh, just point out all the things that didn't go as well as we wanted it to, or the frustrations, or gosh, we said we were going to do this, but it didn't happen. And, that can just drive us bonkers. And in doing that, we forget all of the amazing things that have happened. And so, I want to, to sit down with a piece of paper or start a new memo, voice memo on your phone, or open up a new document or in Google Docs and start writing. And, I want you to just start a list, your ta-da list, as you think back on the school year. What are all the things that you are proud of? Nothing is too small. I want you to think about professionally. I want you to think about with your family. I want you to think about your own wellness. You can think of financially. I mean, everything, anything, and everything goes on this list. And, I want you to start the list. Maybe you start it right now, or you started as soon as you're done listening to this, and I want you to keep that list close by so that you can keep adding to it.

When you sit down to write this, you'll have some, some obvious things that you'll put down. Fantastic. I always feel like as time moves on throughout the rest of the week or the rest of even the day, this will be centered in your brain, because you've done it. Right? So, your brain will kind of hold onto it, and then you will start to notice other things you will start to remember. I should say other things that maybe you forgot about that need to go on your list. And, I want you to keep adding and adding and adding to that list. And, I want you to really sink in to the celebration. That's the thing of what was undoubtedly one of the hardest years of your career? What are those celebrations that should probably actually mean even more this year than perhaps previous years? And, I want you to sink into those and feel really proud of those. As I said, this is such a great thing. You can do this with students. Maybe this is a closing activity that do you do with your grade-level team or your staff or sitting with your, with your PLC teams, and you sit down and you think what are all those celebrations that we have? Maybe you sit down as a family and you think about ... goodness. What are the celebrations that we have together? Maybe you each kind of do an individual list, and then you bring that list together, and you celebrate and create a list with, with all of you that no wrong way to do this.

I just really want you to do this. As I have engaged in workshops onsite and virtually lately, this is something that we've been doing, and it just makes my heart explode. Watching people dig into this because I'll tell you the truth. Here's what tends to happen and this happened for me, too. You sit down. You write ta-da the top of your, your paper--whatever it is. And, you sit there for a minute, and there's kind of just a pause, and it takes a second to kind of kick in. But, what I have watched and witnessed for myself is that once it starts to kick in, it kicks in. And, once you recognize that there's nothing too small to add to this list. I mean teeny, tiny, little things should go on this list. Then, you start to get rolling, and then your list just keeps growing and that then you can just watch it flow and it feels so good.

It's so important to have a sacred ritual around reflection around celebration. And, we know that our brains. Again, like to point out the things that maybe didn't go as great as we wanted them to, but let's fight against that and see those as opportunities for improvement. Right? We never fall down. We just kind of stumble, and we fall forward all of those pieces, but even more so than that, I want us to spend some really sacred time digging into the good stuff. What would make me so happy is if you would jump over to the Facebook group and share some of your ta-da celebrations, and let's cheer each other on and hit like and love and give a little aha--like a high five to other people's comments. And, let's just really, really celebrate as a squad. I am so stinking proud of every single one of you, and I cannot wait, wait. I cannot wait to celebrate with you.

As always, a huge, huge thank you to Brooke for making this happen. Thank you to Solution Tree and Marzano Resources for this job I get to do. And, oh my gosh, to you, my bad-ass Self-Care Squad. Maybe a way you want to treat yourself or these celebrations is you're going to go buy some merch. Remember we've got, we've got all sorts of goodies, all sorts of merch. We've got stickers and hoodies and t-shirts and magnets and notebooks and coffee mugs, and maybe a way to kind of treat yourself, celebrate all of these ta-das is to get yourself some merch. So, check the show notes. Check the Facebook group. We've got links to the merch all over the place. Oh man. Have an amazing week. You guys spend some time really celebrating this week.
